Controversy is currently trailing the Most Bankable African Artistes 2013 list recently released by Forbes. According to the list which was unveiled by Channel O and Forbes last Sunday, 10 big names including Akon, Don Jazzy, P- Square, D'banj, Wizkid, 2face Idibia, Anselmo Ralph(Angola), Sarkodie, Ice Prince and Banky W, were shortlisted as the Most Bankable African Artists 2013. The criteria for the selection were based on artiste's sales, endorsement value, popularity, show rates, awards, YouTube views, investment, influence, appearance in newspapers and social media presence. But the list has been criticised by Nigerians who believe that Forbes got it wrong as the names of artistes like Kwam 1, Flavour, Femi Kuti, Asa and Tiwa Savage were missing on the list. National President of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, Dr Chibuzor Asumogba has said that the 73-day old strike embarked on by his union will be called off in two weeks time. This was even as the President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Dr Nasir Isa Fagge told Vanguard that the 10-day-old varsity lecturers strike would continue. Asumogba, in an interview with Vanguard after the meeting with the Joint National Assembly Committees on Education, indications emerged that the Federal Government would accede to their demands. He said: "Our meeting with the Senate Committee on Education was successful. There was an agreement to meet our demands in the next two weeks as the request will be presented to President Goodluck Jonathan for his approval." Plateau United Feeders and Police Machine FC were both overwhelming victors in the last round of league fixtures, as the promotion rivals competed to achieve the higher goal difference needed for securing a place in the Nationwide League Division. A soccer referee was beheaded and his head displayed atop a wooden stake at midfield after a match erupted in violence in Brazil. The bloody brouhaha began when the match's referee, Otávio Jordan da Silva de Catanhede, became embroiled in an argument with player Linda dos Santos Abreu over a disputed call during a game in the town of Pius XII. The argument reportedly ended with Jordan ejecting Abreu. Following the player's ejection from the game, Abreu and Jordan began to fight. During which, Jordan produced a small knife and stabbed Abreu, 31, who reportedly died of his injuries en route to a local hospital.
