BREAKING: ASUP strike called off, polytechnics to resume next week
Clement Chirman, the National Publicity Secretary of the
Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), has confirmed
that the body has called off its 10-month-old strike.
The strike which began in October last year, was suspended
during the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the
union held on Saturday morning.
Chirman said all striking lecturers have been asked to
resume work on Tuesday next week.
These new developments come just two days after Ibrahim
Shekarau was sworn in as Minister of Education and he held
a 'fruitful' meeting with ASUP's leadership.
The ASUP NEC consists of all chapter (polytechnic) chairmen
of the union and the national executives.
